Sunitha Krishnan is an Indian Social activist and chief functionary and co-founder of Prajwala, as non-governmental organisation that rescuses, rehabilitates and reintegrates sex-traffiked victims into society.

💥 Early life 💥

          Krishnan was born in Banglore, to Palakkad Malayali parents Raju Krishnan and Nalini Krishnan. She saw most of the country early on while travelling from one place to another with her father, who worked with department of survey which makes maps for the entire country.

           Krishnan passion for social work became manifested when, at age of eight years, she starting teaching dance to mentally challenged children. 

》》 At age of 15, while working on neo-literacy campaign for the Dalit community, krishnan was  gangraped by eight man. They did not like that a women was interfering with what they climed as 'Men's society.' They beat her so badly that she is partially deaf in one ear. This incident served as impetus for what she does today.

   Krishnan studied in central government school in Banglore and Bhutan. After obtaining a bechlor's degree in environmental sciences from st. Joseph's college in Banglore, Krishnan completed her MSW ( Medical & psychiatric ) from Roshni Nilaya, Manglore.  

             While, studying psychiatric social work in college, Sunitha Krishnan, Ph.D. acquired a fervent desire to save and better the lives of the appressed children in India. 14 years ago, at age 20, she began to make studies to undo the tight network of sex-offenders that continues to flourish to this day, an industry that enslaves and exploits hundreds of thousands of children. 



💥 The icon who saved over 17000 people from human trafficking 💥

》》》 For those of us familiar with the gender equality movement in India. Sunitha Krishnan is well-known figure. As one of the staunchest of human trafficking, Dr. Krishnan today is one of the most passionate voices fighting for women empowerment. She is best known for co-founding Prajwala, an NGO crusading aginst human trafficking and which has saved more than 17,800 lives who were forced into prostitution.

》》 When I started, " She says, I was left nauseous and shocked by the sight of 15 years old victims, Today, I am not surprised even when it is a 5 years old victim." Hers is a story of endurance, perseverance, passion and success.

PRAJWALA 📝

Prajwala is a Non-governmental organisation based in Hydrabad, India, devoted exclusively to eradicatig forced prostitution and sex-trafficking founded in 1996 by Ms. Sunitha Krishnan and brother jose vettecatil.

Besides the rescue programmes and the rehabilitation programmes, prajwala also manages emergency shelters, children's shelters, adult shelters, and one of the largest educational and economic rehabilitation programmes in the world.
